ORAL SURGERY

Anesthesia & Pain Relief

For your comfort, surgery can be performed under local anesthesia, light sedation and local anesthesia, or general anesthesia.

Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is used most commonly for straightforward surgical procedures on patients with little pre-operative anxiety. A local injection of medication numbs the area to allow for pain free surgery to be performed. You will be completely awake and fully aware during the procedure.

Light Sedation

This type of anesthesia is sometimes referred to as “twilight” sleep. Intravenous sedation, or “IV sedation” is designed to enable you to undergo your surgical procedure in a state of relaxation that can help alleviate anxiety.

General Anesthesia

For patients who want to be fully asleep, we offer the option of  general anesthesia. Oral Surgeons are uniquely trained and qualified to provide general anesthesia safely and effectively. The post-graduate residency program for oral and maxillofacial surgery includes intensive training in the administration of anesthesia in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
